Vector Control
The Town of Ransom Canyon employs licensed professionals, as required by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, to monitor and manage the mosquito population to protect the public from mosquito-borne diseases such as West Nile Virus and St. Louis Encephalitis. These diseases can emerge in Lubbock County and surrounding areas.
Our primary focus in vector control is surveillance and prevention to safeguard public health. Educating the community on source reduction and eliminating standing water is a critical component of our efforts. Additional mosquito control measures include larvicide in ponds, creeks, and other public spaces. When necessary, the City may also conduct ground-level and/or aerial spraying using EPA-approved products, which are deemed safe for humans and the environment.
The frequency of truck-mounted ground spraying or aerial applications is determined based on trap surveillance, field observations (landing count-s), the presence of vector species, and Arboviral activity in the area.
Residents are encouraged to report mosquito issues in specific locations by contacting City Hall. These reports help identify mosquito "hotspots," allowing staff to target surveillance and control efforts effectively.

To Request Vector Control Services
The community can provide a valuable service by reporting mosquito problems in specific areas. Service requests are helpful in pinpointing "hotspots" for mosquito activity. Having accurate information aids in directing surveillance and control efforts to a reported area. This helps the program direct surveillance and control efforts to these areas. Citizens can submit a service request by clicking one of the links below:
